Spicy Spicy

Last month I found out about a company based out of Jacksonville called FreshJax.  They make seasonings.   I got a sampler pack with 5 different spice blends.  Smoky southwest, fresh bay, peppered habanero, grill master, and citrus pepper.  They also send me a bonus bottle of brunch life.

I love spices on everything.  A meal is not complete without a spice. Garlic on this, pepper on that, chili powder on everything in between.  {Honestly, I'm obsessed with chili powder}  When I got these spices I was really excited.  The great thing about these seasonings are that they are 98% organic.  The only non organic ingredient in them is the sea salt.

They have over 50 different spices and spice blends!  If you head over to their website you can check out all of them.  They also have recipes (alot of vegetarian ones) to use the spices with.  Click HERE to goto their website.  What is your favorite/go-to seasoning or spice blend?

Smokey Southwest

Organic Corn, Organic Paprika, Organic Cumin, Organic Oregano, Organic Black Peppercorn, Organic Onion, Sea Salt, Organic Garlic, Cherrywood Smoked Sea Salt, Organic Cayenne, Organic Crushed Red Pepper.
This is honestly good on anything.

Fresh Bay

Organic celery seed, organic cloves, organic smoked black peppercorn, sea salt, organic bay leaves, organic paprika, organic cardamom, organic yellow mustard seed, organic smoked chili flakes, organic mace, organic cinnamon, organic allspice.
Classic seafood seasoning

Peppered Habanero

Organic smoked black peppercorn, organic bird’s eye chili, sea salt, organic habanero pepper, organic brown mustard seed, organic onion, organic garlic, organic parsley, organic lemon peel.
I love this on my eggs.  It's seriously spicy.

Grill Master

Organic smoked black peppercorn, organic dill, organic onion, organic paprika, sea salt, organic coriander, organic thyme, organic garlic, organic fennel, organic rosemary.
Probably delicious on steaks.  I use it on my vegetables

Citrus Pepper

Organic orange peel, organic lemon peel, organic pink peppercorn, organic green peppercorn, sea salt, organic onion, organic garlic, organic lime peel, organic black peppercorn, organic white peppercorn.

Brunch Life: Everything Bagel

Organic onion, organic sesame seeds, organic garlic, Himalayan pink salt, organic black sesame seeds, organic poppy seeds
I put this one on my toast.

Shampoo

My hair is really picky. It only likes a few different shampoos.  Pert Plus, and Herbal Essance.  If I use antthing but those my hair will get really gunky and I can barely comb it.  So, I'm not goiing to lie but when Maple Hollistics offered to send me a free sample of their Tea Tree shampoo.  I was worried that my hair wasn't going to like it.  I was afraid that I was going to not really be able to review it due to that.

BUT......it didn't.  This shampoo was great!  It made my hair feel smooth and shiny.  Tea tree oil  "Promotes healthy hair growth, Can slow hair loss, shedding, and thinning hair, Helps prevent flaking and dandruff, Soothes irritated scalps, eradicates lice, Leaves hair and scalp rejuvenated and fresh."  I really enjoyed the scent because it was very earthy. {Not gonna lie, it smelled like a tree and that's not a bad thing for me}  It left my hair really soft and shiny.  My scalp felt nice.  I will definately be buying this again when my bottle runs out.

Weather

Every month I say "I'm going to get my blog back on track." and every month I fail.  The past month was especially difficult to try and fit in a blog post.  The hurricane caused my entire community to flood, and my landlord kicked us out and gave us 2 weeks to find a place, pack and move.  But, with the holidays coming up I'm hoping that inspiration for posts will fill my brain and I can get back on track.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances my eating has been really crazy.  So, most days atleast on of my meals consists of a Quest bar.  I have been slowly working my Way through the various flavors.

 Strawberry Cheesecake --Actually quite good
Apple Pie  -- Didn't taste anything like apple pie but, it was good.
Mixed berry bliss  -- Very fruity.
Coconut cashew -- Good.  Needed more coconut flavor.  And it was nice because the coconut didn't taste fake
Banana Nut Muffin -- Good.  And luckily the banana doesn't taste fake
PB&J -- Just okay.
Vanilla Almond Crunch
Lemon Cream Pie
Peanut Butter Supreme

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough -- My favorite
Cookies and Cream -- Really good.  Love the chunks of chocolate cookies
S'mores -- Disappointing
Mint Chocolate Chunk -- Tastes like a thin mint
Double Chocolate Chunk -- Another favorite
White Chocolate Raspberry -- Lame.  No real flavor
Chocolate Brownie -- Pretty good but, falls short
Cinnamon Roll -- Boring
Chocolate Peanut Butter -- Another disappointment.  I took this trick or treating with me to curb my candy craving and it doesn't taste like chocolate or peanut butter!

Blueberry Muffin Oatmeal Chocolate Chip -- Good.  Not as good as the chocolate chip cookie dough though
Rocky Road -- Love it!

The blank ones are the ones I haven't been able to try yet.  For the most part I haven't found any that are disgusting.  Some fall short, and a bunch of them I will never buy again but, in general the Quest bars get a 4 out of 5 stars.

Have you tried Quest bars before?  Comment below with your favorite flavor.

That's It Review

That's It bars are great.  They are made from 2 ingredients; apples and whatever else is in the bar.  I eat one Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between clients. I decided to order a sampler box.  The sampler box has 9 different flavors.  I decided to review every flavor for you.
These bars are great.  They only have around 100 calories, no fat, and 26 carbs (all from fruit).

Apple + Apricot
My least favorite.  VERY tart.  And I wasn't expecting the color.  Kinda wondering why it wasn't more yellow.

Apple + Banana
This one tasted like banana bread.  It also wasn't as soft.  Yet again, another favorite.

Apple + Pear
Yuck!  2 thumbs down.  I hate pears.  This is the second new flavor I tried from the box.  I tried the ones that I didn't think I'd like first.  This one was horrible.

Apple + Coconut
I liked this one because it has a bit of crunch.  And the coconut was unsweetened so it gave you a small break from all the sweetness.  I have no clue why I don't have a picture.

Apple +Strawberry
This is another flavor I get at Daily's...daily.  Nothing really special about this one.  I do enjoy it though.

Apple + Blueberry
This flavor is sold at the Daily's near one of my client's houses.  I eat this one quite regularly.  It's okay.  This particular bar was a bit dry.

Apple + Mango

I was semi-surprised that this was good.  Sometimes mango is good, sometimes it's gross, so I didn't know which to expect.  This was good.  It was sweet.

Apple + Pineapple
Very yellow.  The apple and pineapple blended very nicely together.  I was pleasantly surpirsed by how good this tasted.  I normally hate pineapple.  There was a pineapple after taste and it was nice.  This bar was actually quite refreshing.

Apple + Cherry
VERY red comparatively.  I loved it.  Not too sweet, yet not too tart.  The cherry flavor stood out but it mixed well with the apple.

Side note:  I found a piece of a pit in my apricot bar, I sent the company a message to let them know, and they sent me a free sample box!  I love companies that go above and beyond to make clients happy.

Joosh Reivew

I know I haven't posted much recently.  This summer was really full  The past few months, life has been really busy.  You name it, it's probably on our schedule.  Dance classes, appointments, clients, day trips and a bunch of other things.

Even with all that stuff going on Sunny and I read atleast 1 book a week together.  I know that's not alot but, we don't have much time to sit.  Over the summer I was given a copy of the book Joosh's Juice Bar:  The Blue Banana Berry Adventure

This book is so cute!  Here's the description:

"When Joosh’s Juice Bar runs out of strawberries, the youngsters are asked to go on a “strawberry run”. Mo and Coco, along with rainforest friends Randy (a mischievous monkey) and Kwamee (a wise green lizard), travel through the Tropland Rainforest and stumble upon a unique glowing berry in Don Ribbit’s forbidden Swampland. Mo and Randy pick the berries, eat them and bring them back to Joosh’s Juice Bar. What seemed like a great idea at first turns sour as Joosh and his wife Holly return home to the juice bar and find the boys making a new juice with the berries! To their surprise, Randy and Mo, along with the animals that also drank their new blue juice, are glowing blue from head to toe! The Joosh Man takes Coco and the boys to seek aid from Doctor Boo Boo (a toucan bird). Will they find a way to wash the blue glow away? Will they get back home safely before the impending rain storm? "  --Amazon

It's written in rhyme and the pictures are amazing.  Sunny reads it over and over.  It teaches kids the importance of healthy eating and picking the proper foods.

This book is great for kids who love to eat healthy or, if you're trying to convince your kids to eat healthy.  I'm not going to lie, I read it by myself a few times.  So, seriously, hop on over to their website and order the book.  He has also written a new book.

Joosh's Juice Bar: The Tropland Tee-Off.  This one is about a disc golf tournament.

Freekah Review

Over the years my girls have become more adventurous eaters.  Having a kid that is willing to try 95% of the foods you put in front of them is great all the time but, it's really good when you review as many foods as I do.  The girls will taste whatever I make.  And they have also become little foodies so they love giving me ideas for recipes to try using new ingredients.

Freekah Foods sent me their Rosemary Sage and Original flavors.  We tasted the Rosemary Sage by itself and it was excellent.  The girls really enjoyed it.  I had a hard time at first deciding what to do with the Original.  It's so versitile, there are so many options!

What is Freekeh?
Freekeh is a process which means “to rub” in Arabic. Freekeh was created by accident nearly 2,000 years ago when a Middle Eastern village was attacked and their crop of young green wheat was set ablaze. Most folks would sulk over their misfortune, but the crafty villagers rubbed off the chaff, cooked it up and “Eureka!” Freekeh was created. We’re proud to offer you this tasty, nutritious ancient grain with a funny name. *NOT GLUTEN FREE*
Freekeh has up to three times the fiber and protein found inbrown rice, and fewer calories than quinoa and white rice. Freekeh is a great choice to use in recipes you already enjoy, from salads, to soups, to main dishes—the cook times are comparable to brown rice, so it’s easy to choose Freekeh!

I decided to make a Quesadilla Burrito Cheesy Freekah.

Quesadilla Burrito Cheesy Freekah
Serves 4

1 packages Freekah
2.5 cups vegetable broth
1 onion, diced
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
1 can reduced sodium red beans
8 oz shredded cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Cook freekah according to package directions using broth instead of water
  3. While the freekah is cooking saute onions and mushrooms
  4. Drain and rinse beans
  5. Combine mushrooms, onions, beans, and freekah
  6. Place half the freekah mix in an 8x8 or 9x9 square pan.  Top with half the shredded cheese, and repeat with remaing freekah and cheese.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until cheese is melted and brown.

Wanna hear something better?  I'm giving away 1 package of freekah!  You can choose either original, rosemary sage, or tamari.  In order to be entered like Freekah Foods on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram then let me know you've done it and what flavor you would choose if you won.  I will choose the winner on September 18th!

Polar V800 Review

I'm completely obsessed with my Polar products.  Ever since I was given the FT4 for Christmas a few years ago {after begging and pleading for one}, I became hooked.

Recently, I got the Polar V800.  I LOVE THIS WATCH! Seriously, I couldn't be more excited about it.  I wear it all the time.

The V800 has a ton of awesome features.

MultiSport Profiles
There are a bunch of sports to choose from.  Right now my watch has
  • Circuit Training
  • Strength Training
  • Running
  • Cycling
  • Other Outdoor
  • Other Indoor
  • Triathalon
  • Swimming
  • Free Multisport
  • Kayaking
  • Walking
  • Group Exercise
And I don't even have half of them loaded onto my watch!  This helps me keep track of what I'm doing.  Honestly I only use 5 of them 99% of the time.  But, it's nice to know that whatever I want to track, I can.

GPS
When you are using the running, cycling, walking and a few other sport profiles your watch will use the built in GPS to track how far you've gone.  I love it.  It's so much easier then mapping my route later.

Waterproof
Not only is it waterproof, the unit works underwater.  You can go swimming, snorkeling, or do anything else that involves your chest getting wet.  I like to use it when I'm swimming.

24/7 Tracking
The V800 tracks your steps, the hours you slept (and how many of them were restless), how many hours you were active, your calorie count for the day, among other things.  Plus, it yells at you when you have been inactive for too long!

Training Benefits
After each training session it will tell you what the benefits of it is.

Training Load & Recovery
Along the with training benefits the V800 also tells you if you're undertraining, over training or if your training is balanced.  Depending on how hard you worked it will reccommend how long you should rest before exercising again.

Polar Flow
You can upload all your training data to either the Polar Flow app, or Polar Sync (internet based).  Before I had this I had to manually enter everything from my watch to the diet and exercise site I used at the time.

Finally, MY FAVORITE FEATURE............

RECHARGEABLE BATTERY!!!!
Yes folks, unlike the FT4 (and many other before this), the watch is rechargeable.  But don't worry! The time between charges is pretty good.  14 hours in training time, 50 hours in low power GPS mode or 30 days in time mode with 24/7 activity monitoring.  I use it for a combination and my watch lasts about 10 days before needing to be recharged.  It's never died on me.

Do you use a heart rate moniter?  What's your favorite brand and why?

Earth Fare Gainesville

This time last year Sunny and I were given a private tour of the new Earth Fare in Jacksonville.  This year we've been asked to tell y'all about the new Earth Fare in Gainesville that just opened on August 12th.

Earth Fare is a great grocery store.  Seriously, Sunny and I love it and she asks to go at least once a week.

The new store is located at:

3045 SW 34th Street Suite 30
Gainesville, FL 32608

This is their 38th store in the US and their 3rd in Florida.  The other 2 are located in Jacksonville and Tallahassee.  The store also has 8 registers.

The one this I love is what Earth Fare DOESN'T have.  None of the foods at Earth Fare ever have;

  • Antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones
  • Artificial fats or trans-fats
  • High-fructose corn syrup
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Artificial preservatives
  • Bleached or bromated flour
  • Artificial colors or flavors

Eat Local
Many of Earth Fare's products are Florida grown. Look for the red signs that have the local emblem on them.

Meat & Seafood

Earth Fare has a large selection of fresh meat and seafood.  They are all humanely raise, 100% vegetarian fed, sustainably managed and wild caught.

Cafe

They have a nice sized indoor cafe where you can sit down and eat your freshly prepared food or an outdoor cafe that seats 55 and offers free wifi.

While we're talking about prepared food, you HAVE to try it.  I know they always say "don't grocery shop hungry" but, I always goto Earth Fare hungry.  They have an amazing hot bar, sandwiches, sushi, pizza, smoothies and a salad bar. They also have an olive bar.

Produce

They have a wide variety of produce.  If you look closely at the picture you can see the local emblem on the tags.  {And just to clarify, "local" is within 100 miles of Gainesville}

Extras
They also have a huge bulk section, a health and wellness department that sells gluten free and vegan makeup (among other things), {what seems like} miles of frozen food cases, scoop your own ravioli, and wine and beer.

The ribbon cutting for the store was August 12th.  Earth Fare presented a check for $1,000 to the University of Florida's Field and Fork Campus Food Program.  This initiative was designed by University of Florida campus partners to feed the estimated 10 percent of UF students who face food insecurity.

After talking about all the special things that Earth Fare has I want to let you know what I have.  I have a $25 gift card for 1 lucky winner!  Enter the raffle to win.  The winner will be announced (and notified) on September 6,2015.

There are 2 things you must do to enter.  Like my Facebook page {CLICK HERE} and leave a comment down below.

Don't have an Earth Fare near you?  Do you know someone who does?  {Click HERE for a list of Earth Fare locations}  Christmas is only 124 days away.  An Earth Fare gift card would make a lovely Christmas present!

Well, Hello There!

Hey guys!  Remember me?  The blog writer?  The Fit Beach Babe?  The girl who disappears for what seems like a week but ends up being a month and a day?  I'm sorry.  I truly am.  Hopefully the past month has been good to you.

April was crazy for me.  I started working with a few new clients, a local cheer and tumbling gym offered to let me run group classes out of their location so, I've been busy marketing and working on that.  For anyone who's interested, classes will start in May.  Tentatively, they will be Wednesdays at 9 AM in Daytona Beach.  If you're interested please contact me!

Easter was also great.  The girls had a good day.  Unfortunately we missed the community Easter egg hunt due to Mantha having a ballet rehearsal but, I hid eggs on Easter morning.  {Well, Ken hid them, I just filled them} We actually had Easter lunch so Ken could eat with us before he went to work.

The most exciting, {and kind of sad} thing about the month was that my baby girl turned 6. It's crazy.  6 years ago she was tiny and helpless.  Now she's an amazing, wonderful, little lady.  She's got goals and dreams and she knows what she wants in life.  {Those goals and dreams are to be a professional chef and dancer}  She has both her restaurant names picked out.  Her sushi restaurant is going to be name Su-shay.  Yes ladies and gentlemen, Sunny's favorite food is sushi.  She could it it 3 meals a day, 7 days a week.

So, where do you take your sushi-obsessed 6 year old for her birthday dinner?    A sushi restaurant, of course!  We took her to Sakura, the local Japanese hibachi and sushi restaurant.  This place was really nice.

They have one run dedicated to hibachi.  {That's a separate post though.  We're planing on going back for hibachi for Kaylee's birthday}  You can see the hibachi room in the top left picture.  If you sit at the bar you can watch the sushi chef making all the sushi.  That's in the bottom right picture.

We ended up getting 11 orders of sushi.  This picture is just a portion of them.  We stuck with the simple ones.  California rolls, spicy tuna, avocado, asparagus.  They were all delicious.  Prices weren't bad either.  For under $90 we were all stuffed.
For more info on Sakura check out their website:  Sakura Palm Coast

And of course we had to take some time for selfies.  I have 3 girls and they are obsessed with selfies.  I find new ones on my phone every time I get it back from them.  I don't totally get selfies.  I mean, I do but, I don't.  I take selfies only because I'm always the one BEHIND the camera.  According to my Picasa there are like 175 photos of me compared the the 400+ of the girls and Ken.  And 90% of those are selfies.  If I want a picture of me and the girls, I take a selfie {is there a term for a group selfie??}  If I want a photo of me in general, I take a selfie.  99% of them never get posted though.

Oh!  I almost forgot!  Look at this cute necklace I bought Sunny for her birthday.

She for some reason is in love with carrot cake.  I don't even know that she has ever tasted carrot cake but, every time we go to Publix she always asks me for a carrot cake.  I honestly think it's the carrot on top that she likes.  When I found this necklace in the Scrumptious Doodle Etsy shop I knew that it would be perfect for Sunny.  Scrumptious Doodle is awesome.  She has the cutest stuff.  I got Mo taco earrings for her birthday, and Kaylee is getting apple pie earrings for hers.  I'll post a picture of Kaylee's when I get them.  But, below is a picture of Mo's taco earrings.

Scrumptious Doodle is run by a lady named Mareesa.  She makes food themed polymer clay jewelry.   She makes everything from s'mores to cupcakes, tacos to cheeseburgers, and everything in between.  The turn around times and prices for her creations isn't bad.  My first two orders took less than 3 weeks and cost under $20.  I will be a very regular customer of Scrumptious Doodle.  I plan on ordering many more pieces.  My kids are food and jewelry fanatics     If you are looking for food related jewelry, magnets, or charms, click HERE to check out her shop.

Tax Time Toys

Last month I got my tax return back.  Every year I treat myself to something.  Normally it's a new gym outfit and a piece of equipment for the house.  This year I decided I wanted a pair of wireless headphones.  I bought some for Ken a while ago and I wanted to get my own instead of having to borrow his all the time.

Have you looked at the price of most wireless headphones?  $70 and up.  Wanna know a little secret about me?  I'm cheap.  Yep,  I refuse to pay $70+ for a pair of headphones.

The ones I bought Ken I found on a discount website.  They are really nice but, they took almost a month to arrive.  Unlike him, I'm not a patient person when it comes to new toys.  I want my stuff as soon as I pay for it.  I only mail order things if I have to.  I will drive an hour to buy something just so I can have it that same day.

Picture from:  Walmart.com

These are the wireless headphones I found at Walmart. They are made by Straight Talk Wireless.  They cost me under $30!  Yep,  The ones I have linked are only $15.24 but, the ones I bought in the store I think I paid like $25 for.  I'm not certain if the website is wrong or, if there's a slight difference but, no matter which price you pay, it's a steal.

They are really nice.  They come with 3 different ear buds, regular, short and long (I successfully lost 2 sets within a few days of buying them.)  The sound quality is great and they are easy to use.  They come with 3 different ear buds, regular, short and long (I successfully lost 2 sets within a few days of buying them.)  These headphones are not just headphones, they are also a bluetooth microphone for your phone.  {Try saying that 5 times fast!}  I haven't used the microphone yet.  I don't get many calls.  But, I will update you when I do.

I definately give these 2 thumbs up.  So, if you want a cheap toy after you get your return back {or at any time} head to Walmart or Walmart.com and pick these up!

Have you bought yourself any toys this, or any other, tax season?  Tell me about it!

Buy One and Feed One

Recently I was given the opportunity to try Yumbutter's line of GO-Anywhere nut and seed butters.  I was sent the superfood peanut butter, almond butter and sunflower seed butter.   These are made with only a few, organic, pronounceable, ingredients.   They all include:  sunflower seeds, chia seeds, coconut palm sugar, hemp seeds, goji powder, lucuma, and love.  They only difference is the main nut/seed that they use.  (Almond butter contains almonds, peanut butter contains peanuts, etc.)   Chia, hemp, goji and lucuma are all superfoods.  Lucuma is a low-glycemic sweetener.  It contains beta-carotene, iron, zinc, B3, calcium and protein.

"Yum" is definitely the word I would use to describe these.   They taste excellent.  I decided to do a taste test with my 3 girls.  Each one liked a different one.

#1 -- Peanut Butter.  Tasted like your standard peanut butter.  The oil was a bit hard to knead in but, it was good.  This was Kaylee's favorite.

#2 -- Sunflower Seed Butter.  Sunny's and my favorite.  I loved how earthy it tasted.

#3 -- Thanks YumButter!  You have made a nut butter that my "I hate all nut butters" daughter likes!  This was Mo's favorite.

Not only does YumButter taste good, they DO good.  Through the BuyOne:FeedOne™ campaign, Yumbutter provides holistic care to malnourished children and their mothers for every product purchased.  So every time you purchase on of their products you are helping people.  This is one of those times that it feels GOOD to spend money.  You can read more about their campaign HERE

Since I've told you our favorites you need to go get some and let me know yours!  They also have some other awesome flavors like Cran & Coco!

Remember, all nut butters are interchangeable.  If a recipe calls for peanut butter you can switch it with almond or sunflower seed.  Here's a few good peanut butter recipe roundups.

I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!

This is a ZeroBar.  What's a ZeroBar you ask?  It's a fat free, gluten free protein bar.

I found out about this company from a Facebook folower.  ZeroBar graciously sent me a few bars to test out for y'all.  I'm not going to lie.  I was a bit skeptical about whether or not these were actually going to taste good.  But they are amazing.  The only flavor they have out right now is Cherry Brownie.  {Don't worry though, they have more flavors in the works}  It actually tastes like cherries and chocolate.

They website says that they made this  for athletes who "want to burn fat, not eat it."  It's also great for the athlete that CAN'T eat fat.  Actually it's great for ANYONE who doesn't want to eat fat.  This bar is great for keeping in your gym bag or your car, your desk or your purse.  It makes a great after workout {or middle of the day} snack!  It would also be great as a midnight munchies snack.  It has a great mix of protein and carbs.  It will keep you fuller longer than many munchies will.

I let my girls taste these and now they keep bugging me for them. They love them.  Do you have kids?  Do they play sports?  Give them a ZeroBar before or after practice.  Unlike most bars, the amount of protein in these is at an acceptable level for children.  {.95 grams per kilogram of bodyweight a day is reccomended.  So, an 80 lb child needs 34 grams of protein a day.}   The protein will aid in muscle recovery for them, just like it does for adults.  And carbs are the most important energy source.  It will help them fuel/refuel.

Want to find out more about ZeroBar?  Want to get some for yourself?  Check them out and tell them you heard about them on The Fit Beach Babe!
